How to determine a termite infestation
Before we dive into the techniques for ridding your home of termites, let's explain ways to determine a termite infestation. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as seeing termites sliding under your wood pellets. Start by inspecting your attic, all the cracks and joints in your home, and fuse boxes. Here are some types of evidence that your home foundation is under attack.

Hollow wood: If you knock or peck at the wood and hear a soft or hollow sound, you clearly have termites. You can use a screwdriver to further test your wood. If you press a screwdriver into your wood and it gives off easily, that's not a good sign.
Clay tubes: Underground termites create their own "highways" from clay tubes to attach the wood they eat to the soil. These clay tubes, made of wood and soil, are about the size of a pencil. Spotting them means you have termites, but their absence does not mean you are out of the house. Ground termites probably haven't made them yet, and dry wood ants don't make clay tubes, so you might be on your hands.
Head banging: You may hear a strange clicking sound coming from inside your walls. This is because when termites detect a threat, they signal the danger to other termites by knocking their heads into the wood and shaking their bodies.
Swarm Evidence: When subterranean termites set out to create a new colony, they cast their wings, often in piles. If you see a bunch of wings spread out, it could be a termite.
Paint peeling: When termites damage the drywall, they allow moisture to enter the space between the surface and the paint, causing bubbles or peeling of the paint to form. There are other causes that may cause the coating to curl, but if you notice this along with other signs, you may have a termite infestation.
Frass: If you see small, granular oval pellets on door frames, baseboards, and window sills, it could be copper droppings or termites.
Seeing live termites: You may encounter some live termites. It is important to distinguish between them and flying ants so that you know what you are dealing with. Termites' hind wings are equal in size, their belly is thick, and their antennae are straight. On the other hand, flying ants have wings of different sizes, are thinner in the middle, and have curved antennae.
How to prevent termites
There are several ways to make your home less attractive - or unavailable - to termites. Here are the most important methods.

Check for leaks: Underground termites cannot live without moisture. Keep your home dry to keep them out of the way, especially ceiling and air conditioner.
Clean Gutters and Pipes: Termites like to hide in warm, dark, and damp places. Clean gutters and pipes often to prevent termites from settling in.
Fill in cracks and crevices: Block and seal any unnecessary openings in your foundation where pipes meet the wall, and make sure windows and doors are closed.
Watch out for wood: Termites are attracted to the cellulose found in wood, so it's essential not to pile firewood on your home or leave logs in your yard. When building your home, always make sure to leave at least 6 inches between your porch, rooftop or patio and the ground and use termite-resistant wood whenever possible.
Be careful with mulch: Ground termites need soil, and certain types of mulch contain wood. Choose brushes made of materials like rubber or gravel instead.
Get Regular Inspections: Of course, the best prevention is regular termite inspections by a professional pest control company.
